Rachel SilverRachel Silver

Rachel is a rising senior at Emory University majoring in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies (WGSS) with a minor in Economics. At Emory, she is involved with multiple social-justice organizations including Emory Planned Parenthood and the Matriculate nonprofit. Her passion for law and public policy sparked this past year interning at Georgia WAND, where she was involved with governmental affairs at the State Capitol and wrote guidelines for an equitable jobs policy. Currently, she is juggling two internships over the summer and volunteering for a local state legislature campaign with Gregg Kennard. As a Refugee Employment Casework intern at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Atlanta, Rachel helps recently settled refugees apply for jobs and manages clients' case notes in multiple databases. She is also a Law and Policy intern at the reproductive justice organization SisterLove, where she is writing a brief the inadequate health conditions of pregnant inmates in Georgia. Next year, Rachel will be completing an WGSS honors thesis with Dr. Falguni Sheth, focusing on a critical feminist theory of race, power, and security studies. Rachel hopes to attend law school one day and become either a public defender or a nonprofit advocate.
