Emory Economics Leadership Club
The Emory Economics Leadership Club brings together students interested in economics and professional growth. Through recurring meetings, peer connections, alumni engagement, and practical workshops, members explore careers, build relationships, and develop the confidence and skills to lead.
What Members Experience
- Conversations with alumni and professionals from a range of fields.
- Practical workshops on topics such as résumés, interviews, networking, graduate school, and workplace readiness.
- Recurring meetings that allow relationships and conversations to develop over time.
- Small-group discussions about career decisions, workplace experiences, confidence, communication, and leadership.
- Opportunities to contribute ideas, shape programming, and take on student leadership responsibilities.
How Meetings Work
The club meets every other week throughout the semester. Meetings alternate among conversations with alumni and professionals, small-group discussions, practical workshops, and student-led activities. This recurring format gives members time to form meaningful relationships, reflect on what they learn, and apply it to their own goals. Students should look for announcements here or on the Leadership Canvas page.
- Industry Leaders — Hosted conversations with Veronica Bustamante Quantitative Financial Analyst at Bank of America, Leslie Guggenheim Director of Product Management at Home Depot, Diego Rojas Senior Economist at Amazon, offering students firsthand insight into careers in finance, economics, and industry.
- Graduate School Perspectives — Conversations with graduate students from Emory, Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia, giving members an inside look at graduate school, the application process, research, and life for students interested in applying to Masters, MBA or PhD.
- Career Development — Career and resume workshops in collaboration with Emory Economics Investment Forum (EEIF), helping students translate their academic experiences into strong resumes, prepare for interviews, and build practical professional skills.
Mentorship and Professional Connections
Mentorship is a signature part of the club experience. Students meet alumni and professionals working in business, government, nonprofit organizations, academia, policy, and other fields. These conversations help members explore career paths, learn from real professional experiences, and develop relationships that can continue beyond a single event.
Some sessions feature a guest mentor or professional, followed by opportunities for questions and small-group discussion. Members can then continue the conversation with peers in later meetings and consider how the lessons apply to their own academic and professional plans.
