Emory Econ Undergraduate Student Advisory Board
The Emory Econ Undergraduate Student Advisory Board comprises a diverse representation of the Economics program including Econ majors, Econ minors, Econ-Math joint majors, Econ-CS joint majors, Econ-HH joint majors, and Econ majors from the Goizueta Business School.
The board members help facilitate department events, programs, and initiatives that support the interests of current and prospective students. In addition to strengthening student engagement, members of the Student Advisory Board give crucial feedback as the voice of our students and will also develop professional, leadership, and advocacy skills.
2025-26 Student Advisory Board
Purvi Aiyer
Purvi is an Economics major from Manila, Philippines. She chose to study Economics because of its versatility and real-world to so many different fields. Her favorite economics class that she's taken so far has been Economics of Crime – she credits it with giving her a new perspective on crime and how it impacts the economy and society can be measured.
Shegofa Alizada
Shegofa majoring in a combined program of Economics and Human Health. Her hometown is Kabul. She chose to study Economics because it allows her to analyze and understand the world from an economic perspective, particularly how demand and supply affect various aspects of life. She credits taking Microeconomics and this semester’s Macroeconomics and ECON 220 for truly shaping her thinking and sparking her interest in how economic principles apply to real-world situations.
Ishaan Attal
Ishaan is a BBA student concentrating in Finance (Real Estate) and double majoring in Economics, originally from Tampa, Florida. He chose economics for its real-world applicability, especially in understanding how macroeconomic trends shape different industries. One of his favorite experiences as an Econ student was studying abroad at the London School of Economics, where he took a course on urban economics and real estate finance.
Aarushi Barai
Aarushi is pursuing a double major in Economics and Business Administration (BBA) at Emory University. Originally from Mumbai, India, she chose economics because it allows her to combine analytical problem-solving with real-world applications that drive meaningful impact. One of her most memorable courses has been Econ 371 (Health Economics), which brought together her passion for healthcare and economics while providing opportunities for collaboration and presentation.
Daniel Bell
Daniel is a senior from Chicago, Illinois, double majoring in Economics and History. He enjoys getting to apply quantitative approaches to social issues through the Econ department. This is his third year in the Student Advisory Board, and his favorite memory is his opportunity to compete in the University of Chicago econometrics games with his 499R class!
Grace Chung
Grace is from Montgomery, AL, and is majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Economics and Math. She's passionate about understanding how the world works and love using math to quantify and analyze it. Economics really speaks to both her practical and analytical sides, and it aligns perfectly with her strengths and interests. One of the most memorable experiences in her academic journey was taking ECON 101 with Professor Mialon and credits his class with helping her solidify her career path in economics.

Isabela De Luca Auriemo
Isabela is a sophomore double majoring in Economics and Business Administration (BBA) from São Paulo, Brazil. She chose Economics because she loves how it makes you see the world differently and understand how things really work, while also opening so many doors for the future. One of her favorite experiences so far has been the freshman seminar on money laundering—it was fascinating, and she highly recommends it to other students!
Áine Devins
Áine is an Economics and Computer Science joint major. Her hometown is Houston, Texas (Go Astros!). She is in her second year at Emory and chose to study economics for the wide range of applications it has in daily life. At Emory the economics courses are very interactive, and she’s had many a laugh doing group projects — her favorite (one involving a long survey and tons of snacks) ended up introducing her to one of her closest friends.

Aden Diaz
Aden is an Economics and Linguistics double major and also a student in the Economics 4+1 Master's Program. He is from Canton, Georgia, which is roughly an hour north of Atlanta. He chose to study Economics because it merges his passion for Math with his desire to stay engaged with current events. His most enjoyable memories as an Econ student are the conversations at Track and Field practice that he has with his fellow Economics majors on the team.

Khushi Goyal
Khushi is an Economics + Applied Mathematics & Statistics double major. She is from Kolkata, India and chose Economics as her area of interest because she is fascinated by the mechanics of markets and the application of its principles in the corporate world. She finds studying Econ at Emory an incredibly rewarding experience and describes the faculty as extremely knowledgeable and supportive.

Claire Hamilton
Claire is a senior from Pittsburgh, PA studying Economics & Human Health with a minor in Quantitative Sciences. After taking ECON 101 Freshman Spring, and given her interests in health policy and analytics, she describes knowing that the Econ-Human Health joint major was perfect for her. She says that she especially loved ECON 371 (Health Economics) with Professor Markowitz!

Lucy Huang
Lucy is an Economics and Political Science double major from Springfield, Missouri. She says that she chose to study Economics when she decided to enroll in Microeconomics and realized she was deeply interested and drawn to the field. A memorable event she has had as an Econ student at Emory is the night before an exam, where her fellow econ students somehow all find each other and congregate to study deep into the night.

Wayne Huang
Wayne is a sophomore majoring in Economics/Computer Science and Mathematics from Wuxi, a chill town in the eastern part of China. He decribes being drawn to Economics to learn why his bank account always nails the “scarcity of resources.” A memorable moment as an Econ student was visiting Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

Mallory Liffman
Mallory is a Math and Econ joint major from Bethesda, MD. She chose to study Economics because it allows her to apply her love of math to the real world. She is in the Economics Leadership Club, and looks forward to the meetings/events every Wednesday.

Alan Liu
Alan is currently a senior studying finance and economics, originally from the Bay Area, California. He chose economics because of its versatility. He feels that no matter what walk of life you choose, it will always be applicable. The most memorable economics event during his time at Emory was the ESS Alumni Panel where we invited a group of econ alumni with diverse professional backgrounds to speak about their experiences.

Kennedy Nieves
Kennedy is originally from Potomac, Maryland, and is majoring in Economics and Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. She chose to study Economics to better understand the movement of money—from personal budgeting to global markets. Last summer, she expanded her academic experience by studying abroad at the London School of Economics, where she took unique elective courses.

Lola Olawoye
Lola is a senior majoring in Economics and Business Administration, from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She chose to study economics because she has been drawn to economic questions since high school and enjoys using economic reasoning to address the problems companies face. One of her favorite experiences as an Econ student has been joining the first cohort of the Economics Leadership Program; she says it’s been a great way to connect with others in the department, and she especially loved fun events like the Valentine’s mixer with mocktails. Lola also serves as Co-President of the Economics Investment Forum, where they explore applications of economics in research and investing.

Sushmita Rajan
Sushmita is a double major in Economics and Human Health from Pittsburgh, PA. They chose to study Economics because they value its real-world applications, its emphasis on problem-solving, and the way it connects with a wide range of disciplines. One of their favorite experiences as an Economics student at Emory was attending the Major Expo during their freshman year, where they explored different tables, met professors, and learned about the variety of courses and opportunities within the major.

Emily Robins-Faden
Emily is from Los Angeles, California and is a third year student here at Emory pursuing a double major in Economics and Philosophy, Politics, and Law. As a pre-law student, she knew that she wanted to major in Economics due to the wide range of skills and career options the Econ major can provide. She says that she really enjoys the social science aspect of Economics and how economic policy can inform legal matters and government decisions. Her favorite class in the Econ department so far has been ECON 385 “The Economics of Crime”, taught by Professor Blake Allison. This course combined the law, government regulations, history, and economic policies—a testament to how economics is able to serve my interests in the intersection of public policy, law, and economics. She is very excited to be serving on this year’s Student Advisory Board!

Madeleine Smith
Madeleine is a senior studying Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Business, from Dallas, TX with plans to stay in Atlanta after graduation. She chose to study Economics because it helped blend her love for qualitative and quantitative fields. Madeleine says that she has been able to discover different fields within Economics such as Financial Markets, Banking, and Behavior Economics which have given her a holistic perspective of the department. Her favorite experience within the department has been taking and then TA’ing for Econ 201 with Professor Kim.

Emma Ugarcovici
Emma is a senior studying the Human Health joint major and also a French minor. She is from the suburbs of Chicago and hopes to live in the city after graduating from Emory. She chose the Econ/Human Health joint major because she was looking for a number-driven degree that was still rooted in current events and topics. From healthcare markets, insurance, stocks, and even the internal debate of pros vs. cons we have when making a decision, economics is relevant in numerous contexts. The major has given her a deeper perspective on systems and occurrences that she used to take for granted and/or dismiss as being too complicated. Several memorable moments that come to mind when she thinks of her time with the Econ department are the holiday banquet, getting to be a TA for Econ 220 (Probability & Statistics for Economists), and the Econ Department Mixer Event in the beginning of the semester (usually in the spring). Emma encourages fellow Emory students to reach out to her if they have any questions regarding the joint major or opportunities in and out of Emory, from joining clubs and studying abroad to applying to internships/jobs!
