About Us
The Economics Department at Emory University has risen to national and international eminence over a short period of time. With forty faculty members, many recognized scholars and leading researchers, and strong teams of seven econometricians, eight macro/financial economists, six micro theorists, and eight applied micro/health economists, Emory Economics is one of the most promising departments in the country.
The Department has a multi-faceted relationship with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and strong ties with Emory Rollins School of Public Health and Goizueta Business School. We were also privileged to have received from Econometrics Society the opportunity to host its 2026 North American Summer Meetings. The Department also organizes the bi-annual Kafoglis Nobel Laureate Lecture Series that has brought to campus legendary scholars like Amartya Sen, James Keckman, Thomas Sargent, Christopher Sims, David Card, and Peter Howitt for public talk and interactions with faculty, students, and alums.
The Emory Economics Department also has the most formidable quantitative caliber in the region and beyond that allows it to have innovative quantitative-based degree programs that prepare students for future work environments. We not only train students to work with Data at a deep level but also help them develop analytical and decision-making skills using important economic principles. The econometrics, macro, and applied micro teams contribute to this important task.
At the undergraduate level, the department offers a standard economics major and joint majors with the Human Health, Mathematics, and Computer Science departments. We are currently working on an Arts/Economics joint major, one of the very few in the country. Most of these majors have a STEM OPT designation. Many business students also take economics as a supplementary major to enhance their marketability.
At the graduate level, the department offers two MS programs, a 4+1 BA/MS and a stand-alone MS with data sciences, pricing, and a health focus as well as a Ph.D. program with macro, applied micro, and econometrics concentrations. We are in final stages of introducing a new MS program in Computer Science/Economics with AI focus.
Our courses are taught by faculty experts with academic and high-tech experience in economics data sciences, macro/finance, and health. Our instructional partners are the Atlanta Fed, consulting companies, and other major corporations, so students are exposed to a mix of academic and other professional skills throughout their academic training.
