Welcome New Doctoral Students
We are delighted to welcome the following doctoral students to our Ph.D. program in Fall 2024.
Joaquín Barrutia Álvarez joins us from Mexico where he earned his B.A. in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. He completed a Master of Social Sciences in Economics at Uppsala University in Sweden. Joaquín has worked as a Research Assistant at ITAM's Center for Economic Research (CIE) and as a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow at Georgetown University through the United Programs for Political Economy Research (UPPER) as part of the Global Research Training Initiative (GRTI). His research interests include political economy, development, and applied econometrics.
Atta Domson joins us from Ghana where he obtained his B.A. in Economics and Mathematics, with a First Class Honours, in the University of Ghana. He then served as a Teaching Assistant in the Mathematics Department of the same university. His current research interests are in Econometrics as well as its applications to Game Theory.
Swarali Havaldar is from India and holds an MSc in Economics from University of Warwick, after which she worked as a pre-doctoral researcher at King’s College London. Her research focused on projects related to monetary policy and financial stability using econometric modelling and machine learning techniques. Her research interests lie in the areas of monetary, macro and financial economics.
Aikaterini-Christina Katsimpri joins us from Greece. She received her BSc and MSc in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business and the Barcelona School of Economics, respectively and her MSc in Neuroeconomics from the University of Amsterdam. Her research interests lie at the intersection of public and behavioral economics, with a focus on health economics and policy.
Summer Ligon joins us from Georgia Tech’s M.S. in Economics program. Originally from Georgia, she received a B.S. in Economics with a minor in Mathematics from Georgia College & State University, graduating as a student athlete. Her primary research interest is labor economics with an emphasis on education of economics.
Michael Loroff is originally from Thunder Bay, Canada. He received his Honours Bachelor of Economics Degree from Lakehead University and his master’s degree in economics from Queen’s University. His current research interests are in monetary economics.
Wing Yiu (Sabrina) Luk joins us from Hong Kong where she earned her BSc in Economics and Finance at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Before joining Emory, she worked as a gap-year intern at Goldman Sachs Asia Economics Research. Her primary research interests are monetary economics and macroeconomics.
Joel Reyes joins us from Ecuador, where he earned a B.S. in Economics from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Ecuador, and a master’s degree in economics from Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia. He worked as a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Macroeconomics and Financial Systems at EAFIT. His primary research areas include Financial Macroeconomics and Econometrics.
Gabriele Tori joins us from Italy, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management and a M.Sc. degree in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, including an Exchange experience at the University of Amsterdam. His research experiences include two years of Research Assistance in the field of historical finance and capital mobility. His research interests lie in Macroeconomics, with a focus on Monetary Policy and Central Bank Communication.
