Kafoglis Economics Nobel Laureate Lecture Series


The Emory Economics Department annually sponsors a lecture by a Nobel Laureate in Economics as part of its Milton and Virginia Kafoglis Economics Nobel Laureate Lecture Series.

Named after and founded by esteemed emeritus faculty member, Milton Kafoglis, this lecture series seeks to bring eminent economists to the Atlanta area to speak on important and relevant topics in economics to a broad audience.

Amartya Sen Sen Amaryta

On Sunday, May 8, 2016, Dr. Amartya Sen, Thomas W. Lamont University Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University, world-renowned economist, and 2016 Emory University Commencement Honorary Degree recipient, delivered a lecture on global security, entitled "Global Security and World Civilization."

Nearly 300 people attended, including many graduating seniors and their families, alumni, students, faculty from many departments, and university administration.

Dr. Sen's talk was the lecture series' inaugural event.
