The Economics Department, with the support of Laney Graduate School, awards graduate students annually:
- Economics Graduate Student Research Award of Excellence
This award was established to honor a graduate student who exemplifies superb research abilities and an eagerness to engage in scholarly activities.
- Economics Graduate Student Teaching Award of Excellence
This award was established to honor a graduate student who exemplifies superb teaching abilities and demonstrates extraordinary dedication to teaching economics.
Economics Graduate Student Research Award of Excellence
2022 Award Recipient is Juan Estrada
Juan Estrada is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate who has excelled as a researcher specializing in the Econometrics of Network Data. Starting in his second year, Juan’s research has been accepted for presentation in highly competitive professional Economics conferences such as the World Congress, North American Summer Meetings, the European Winter Meetings, and the Latin American Meetings of the Econometric Society, the Annual Conference of the International Association of Applied Econometrics, and various versions of the Annual Conference on Network Science and Economics. His advisors describe his work as important contributions to the literature of causal inference with multilayered network data.

Economics Graduate Student Teaching Award of Excellence
2022 Award Recipient is Hanna Glenn
Hanna Glenn is a third year graduate student who was the teaching assistant for around 185 undergraduate students in Principles of Microeconomics last Fall 2021. The course instructor states: “Her responsibilities in this class included managing the lectures, holding office hours, grading exams and homework, holding review sessions and special class meetings. She was a tremendous asset to my students and myself in this regard.” Students expressed their immense gratitude for her mentoring, encouragement, and support. Her award showcases our department’s commitment to those who not only have the skills to become excellent researchers, but also care about students and their learning experience.
