Game Highlights

The Game

This year's the Battle of the Fields took place on Saturday April 26 starting at 10:30 a.m. with participation of three teams representing Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics. The teams played a round Robin tournament with three 30-minutes games to identify the winner of the battle.  The weather was ideal and many spectators were cheering the teams on.

First, Microeconomics thrashed Macroeconomics with a score of 6-1. Hugo Mialon and Maria Arbatskaya were the leaders of the Microeconomics team while Juan and Bin Wei led the macro team. Coach Tao Zha as usual was on the side energizing the teams.

In the second game, The Econometrics team took the stage to face Microeconomics under the leadership of Pedro Sant’Ana who was soon joined by Florian Gunsilius while Stefan and Essie were out of town for business.  Microeconomics that was still in the awe of their win against macro tied 2-2 with Econometrics with a bit of luck in an exciting game of rapid goals and counter-goals.

This led to an exciting third game between Econometrics and Macroeconomics in which Econometrics in a thrilling game of back and forth exhausted the Macroeconomists and won the game 6-5.

Given that Econometrics and Microeconomics each had one win and one tie, a penalty shootout followed in which Microeconomics marginally beat Econometrics who missed only one of its five penalties.  At the end Microeconomics received the Battle of the Fields Trophy for 2025 amongst the cheering faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates and their families who were there to participate in the department end of the year picnic and soccer game.
